Founded in 1981, Equest provides Therapeutic Sports Riding classes and Hippotherapy to approximately 500 riders annually with the help of 35 horses, 12 certified riding instructors and more than 700 volunteers who provide 35,000+ hours of direct service each year. After being the first therapeutic riding program in Texas, we have become one of the largest non-profit therapeutic riding centers in the state. We serve children and adults with all types of physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities.
In our program, our clients see substantial progress. The rhythmic movement of the horse naturally moves the body in a manner similar to the human gait, improving posture, balance and muscle control. Every rider gains self-confidence and takes that back into his or her world.
The lifeblood of Equest is its volunteers who work with the riders and horses. Volunteers provide valuable administrative help and need no previous experience with horses or the disabled. Each volunteer is extensively trained on an on-going basis.
Only the most qualified instructors and therapists work with Equest. On our full-time staff we currently have one PATH Intl. certified Master Instructor, four PATH Intl. certified Advanced Instructors, and three PATH Intl. certified Registered Instructors.
Our therapy staff is licensed and has advanced training in Hippotherapy. Our staff is nationally respected for its expertise. Even our horses must meet rigorous standards.
